Common uses
This medicine is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity.
Before Using Phentermine
Medical conditions or some medicines may interact with this medicine. Inform your pharmacist or doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Do not use Phentermine if you are also taking guanadrel, guanethidine, furazolidone, fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Use Phentermine is not recommended if you have a history of heart conditions, brain or spinal cord disorders, atherosclerosis, glaucoma, high blood pressure, or hyperthyroidism. Contact your pharmacist or doctor if you have any concerns or
questions about using Phentermine.
Follow Directions
Follow the directions for using Phentermine provided by your doctor. Take Phentermine about 30 minutes before a meal. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 5 hours before bedtime. If you are taking Phentermine 1 time a day, take your dose in the morning. Store Phentermine away from heat and light in a tightly-closed container,
at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Do not take 2 doses at once. If you miss a dose of Phentermine, take it as soon as possible. If it is after noon and you are taking this medicine 1 time a day or after 4 pm and you are taking it more than 1 time a day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
Cautions
Do not exceed the recommended dose or take Phentermine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using Phentermine. Do not drive, operate machinery,
or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Before you have dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the dentist or doctor that you are using Phentermine. For women: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of using Phentermine during
pregnancy. It is unknown if this medicine is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine.
Side effects
Possible side effects that may occur while taking Phentermine include nervousness, restlessness, dry mouth, or difficulty sleeping. If side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice not listed above effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Drug interactions
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include rapid breathing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps, restlessness, tremor, confusion.
Additional information
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed.
